Everyone wants the best Android tablet to buy this year, but why is that? Here’s a scenario. You have a good laptop with you but there are some places it just doesn’t fit. Walking around the place while being able to watch something on a bigger screen just isn’t possible with a smartphone or a laptop. And then there are meetings and office shenanigans where you’d want something handier.
Starting from the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 to the Amazon Fire Tablet, there is a vast range of choices out there. And while there are tablets for sale that cost ten times as much as others on this list, your choice should be dependent on your needs and your pocket.
Best Android Tablet for the Money
Since the first test we held, we have been awed by something or another from all of the products below. You could love the premium feeling of Pixel C, the Google tablet; and you could also be fanboying after how Asus ZenPad 3S 10 packs a punch in a low price.
Best Android Tablet Overall
Samsung Galaxy Tab S4
High End Specs, Great Performace
If you have got the money to spend, why not get the best that the market has on offer? OLED screens are a must, just like Snapdragon 835, 64 GB memory and 4GB RAM is! We are talking about the most stable of all the tried and tested Samsung tablets.
Best Budget Android Tablet
Amazon Fire Tablet HD 8
Cheaper Than You Think
And better thank you hope as well! The Amazon Fire Tablet HD 8 is one of those Android tablets that have stood their ground. Offering satisfactory power, performance, and quality, Amazon has got us buying!
Since we are talking about the best Android tablet in the market, how about the Google tablet itself? Well, there are more than one of those, but the Google Pixel C is definitely worth a shot. Although it is quite expensive, the design is premium and it shows off the same wherever you try it.
We did try out a number of other products, from the days of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A to the Google Pixel Slate. But the best tablet when it comes to overall premium treatment is this one. Not that we are promising you the highest specifications or anything.
For instance, you will get a good 3GB RAM but that is not industry leading. There is a 32GB storage memory but no slot for SD cards. The 8MP, 2MP rear and front combo cameras do perform the basic tasks but are not in the league of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 or even the latest Google tablet models.
On the upside, you are getting a stock Android with Nougat packed in the box, and Nvidia Tegra X1 to boost the processing. Alongside the Quad-core processor, you will love the screen size at 10.2 inches. But that is only where the good things start from.
Despite being an older model, the Google tablet boasts a 2,560 x 1,800 resolution which looks spectacular on the large screen size. We especially had fun watching a number of video samples. Another great selling point of the Pixel C is that it has its roots in a tablet to laptop design, thanks to the Chromebook ancestors. Therefore, you are also able to dock it and use as a laptop.
- Display is impressive
- Premium build
- Flexibility of use
- Pricier than many
- Expensive accessories
It is true that a premium quality tablet can set you back by thousands of dollars. Apple’s iPads aren’t any different. But when it comes to Android, there is a huge range of products with similar differences in prices. HD 8, the Amazon Fire tablet, is one of those models that will cost only a fraction.
Usually, with such cheap products, the performance is greatly affected. But not with the Fire HD 8. I mean if you are getting Quad-core 1.3GHz, 1.5GB RAM and 16 or 32GB storage at less than a hundred dollars, what else would you ask for. In case you are wondering, Amazon did a good job of changing very little as compared to its predecessor.
The Fire HD 8 uses the Amazon Fire OS, which is also an Android-based operating system used for Amazon’s products like Fire, Kindle and Echo. If you are already using some of their products, this one will blend in very nicely. But it’s not too much of a problem even if it doesn’t.
Although there is nothing in the hardware section of the Amazon Fire tablet that makes it superior to the rest. Yet, it is so astonishingly cheap we had to make it our budget pick. For the lower price, you will have to compromise on the speakers, as well as the resolution which is only 1280 x 800. At 8 inches though, this isn’t too bad.
Those of you who are okay with a comparatively slower processing speed that comes with a very affordable price tag, and an amazing 10-hour battery, Amazon Fire HD 8 is just for you!
- Best budget Android tablet
- Satisfactory performance
- Good battery timing
- Slower than many
- No high end features
Ever since the Galaxy S2 and then Samsung Galaxy Tab A, Samsung has been leading all over the market due to their state of the art quality. The S2 was overtaken by S3 and then by S4. While there are newer models available now, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 totally deserves to be among the top.
We are talking about Snapdragon 835, Android Oreo, 4GB RAM and 64 GB storage! Even the front camera is a good 8MP although the rear camera does better at 13MP.
While it isn’t as new as the Huawei MediaPad M5 8.4″ there is a reason why we picked it for the best Android tablet to buy. For starters, it comes with a bigger 10.5″ OLED screen. The resolution isn’t better though. Both the MediaPad M5 and the Samsung Tab S4 display a 2560 x 1,600 resolution.
We were more impressed with the larger battery, however. The Galaxy Tab has a giant 7300 mAh battery which compares to 5100 mAh of our second best model above. The battery size is even bigger than its own predecessors.
Although the cheap tablets on this list would hardly touch 32 GB or 64 GB in storage, the S4 Tab starts from 64 GB and goes up to offer 256 GB right there on board. You can also double it with an SD card. Had it not been for the oh-so-superior components of the Samsung tab, we would have picked up the Huawei as it costs almost half as much.
This brings us to the only problem there is with the S4 tab. It is a high priced model with just a few hardware upgrades over competitors that will cost you much less. But then again, they won’t have an S Pen or the superior OLED display. There also are some high-end features like the Dex mode that allows you to connect the tab with a PC and use it as a desktop as well.
- Top quality hardware
- Great HDR due to OLED
- High end build
- Costs like a laptop
If you aren’t willing to spend a fortune on the Samsung tablet above, here’s the much cheaper Asus ZenPad 3S 10. There are a number of things that the two compare well in. For instance, against the 2560 x 1,600 resolution of Samsung Asus has a slightly smaller 2,048 x 1,536.
For the tablet market, that is a true 2K display. And despite having less number of pixels, we found it to be brilliant. Same goes for the Mediatek MT8176 CPU of the ZenPad. It isn’t a Snapdragon 835, but its still a quick chipset that won’t let you down.
However, the two tablets do match in terms of RAM i.e. 4GB. Storage wise you will be able to get the basic 64 GB too, although the additional SD card slot will let you grow the space well. We believe that anything over 8″ is okay to use for a tablet, so it won’t really matter if the 9.7″ display of Asus ZenPad 3S 10 is 0.3″ smaller than the Samsung tablet.
It is even more impressive how the ZenPad looks classier than its price range. Some of us even call it the Android’s answer to the iPad design. So you have got all slots checked in terms of aesthetics too. Moving on, when you are paying an average price, you should know there could be areas where you’ll see room for improvement. The quality of build might be one of those areas in this case.
But overall, it is a good choice in terms of performance. Not only the 2K display but also a very good audio quality advocates strongly for it. Here’s a little more on the Asus ZenPad 3S 10.
- 2K display is impressive
- Processor is surprisingly quicker
- Designed well
- Build quality needs improvement
- Not the most high end product
We know how in the past Huawei and the likes were considered sub-par gadget makers. But they have certainly changed the game in the more recent times. For instance, we had the Huawei MediaPad M5 competing with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 for the best Android tablet slot.
And why would it not? If you are packing something like the Octa-core Hisilicon Kirin 960 processor as well as a good 4GB of RAM, you are bound to get boisterous. It gets almost as good as the Samsung tab in terms of storage too, there is a choice between 32/64/128 GB versions while the SD card slot gets cozy with up to 256 GB!
The camera quality is also excellent if not the best. But hey the Huawei MediaPad M5 has a 13MP rear and 8MP front camera! When you are looking at all that media you will notice the screen is not the biggest in the lot. At 8.4 inches though it presents 2560 x 1,600 resolution which is quite impressive.
What’s left is the audio department, and trust us the inbuilt dual Harmon Kardon speakers will not disappoint. The speakers are powerful but packed well inside the aluminum body of the Android tab. Among the tablets for sale on Amazon right now, this is one of the highest valued product.
Yes, it’s not as cheap as the Fire HD 8, but a comparative price analysis will tell you it has good value for money. There are Samsung tablets and Google tablets that cost a lot more, and in some cases, for a lot less.
- Good value for money
- Fingerprint sensor
- Good screen quality
- Custom Android is a little all over the place
While there are iPads with as big as 12.9-inch screens, among the best Android tablets Galaxy View is the largest at 18.4 inches. We believe that is too big for a handy tablet, so look for something like the 10.2 inches of the Google tablet above.
Of course, you can, if you look at the list above you will see the Amazon Fire Tablet HD 8 as one of the best Android tablet models we have tested. This and a few other models are available for sale at prices that are equal to or below $100. But we would suggest you go there only if it is an issue of the budget, otherwise, a great tablet can be bought for a little over $300!
